For Greek fashion designer Mary Katrantzou — whose unique take on textures, prints, and silhouettes in women’s clothing earned her international acclaim at a young age — confidence is the key to success. In an interview with “The Talks” in 2015, she admitted that doubts are natural for any artist. “In fashion you have to put a new product out there every six months with little time to process, little time to evolve, and all the ambition in the world,” she reflected. “It’s impossible, I think, not to doubt.” Yet Katrantzou also pointed out that we must believe in our own vision in order to create. It’s a truism even beyond the artistic world: When we move through life with confidence, we teach others to trust in us, too.

After more than three decades in the music industry, the multitalented recording artist Moby shared this insight about his craft in an interview in 2016. But it was in his 1894 novel “Pudd’nhead Wilson” that Twain wrote these memorable words on the subject of courage. Though courage and fear are often viewed as opposite experiences, they are actually intrinsically related: Fear is a common and natural feeling, but bravery comes from being able to overcome it.

Temporary Opening of Waiting List
The City of Beacon Housing Authority will open its waiting list for both the Tenant Based and
the Project Based Housing Choice Voucher Program on 4/1/22.
Applications will be available for pick up beginning April 1, 2022 at 9:00 am at our main office
located at One Forrestal Heights, Beacon, NY 12508. Applications will only be issued on
Monday, Wednesday and Friday during normal business hours.

Completed applications must be MAILED to: The City of Beacon Housing Authority, One
Forrestal Heights, Beacon, NY 12508 or DROPPED OFF in our lock box at the same location.
Faxed or emailed applications will not be accepted.
All fully completed applications must be received in our lock box or postmarked by August 31, 2022. The waiting list will close at 12PM on August 31, 2022 and no further applications will
be issued or received.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE ANNUAL CHARGE FOR RUNNING AIR CONDITIONERS AT FORRESTAL HEIGHTS.
Effective immediately the yearly charge of $80 for AC Units at the Forrestal Heights Property has been eliminated. Starting this summer BHA will no longer collect the $80 per unit to cover the cost of running air conditioning units for the summer months. However, the installation / removal fee of $20 per unit will remain in effect until further notice.

The poem reflects on love, loneliness, and belonging in the greater context of time and space. Sometimes in our most difficult and darkest moments, we need to be reminded of the power of our own value and beauty. As Hafiz writes, “Look what happens with a love like that / It lights the whole sky.”
