The People from NY Project HOPE will be coming back to BHA to discuss Disaster Preparedness and Community Response. June starts the beginning of Hurricane Season and with recent climate changes the Hudson Valley has recently experienced unique and severe weather patterns. It is best to be knowledgeable in regard to best practices when suddenly dealing with any disaster emergency. Be prepared and be vigilant.

Impaired driving crackdown takes place Friday, May 27th through Tuesday, May 31st 
Poughkeepsie … Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro announced police agencies throughout Dutchess County will participate in a special enforcement effort to crack down on impaired driving during Memorial Day weekend, beginning Friday, May 27th and concluding Tuesday, May 31st. The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and municipal law enforcement agencies will join agencies across the state and will be out in force in this coordinated effort to aggressively target those who put lives in danger.  

County Executive Molinaro said, “While we all pause to remember the brave men and women who have made the supreme sacrifice for our freedom this Memorial Day, we must also preserve the safety of motorists and passengers on our roadways. Some will choose to include alcohol in their holiday weekend, but there is no excuse for impaired driving – if you plan on drinking this Memorial Day weekend, plan a safe ride home. Law officers throughout Dutchess County will dutifully remove impaired drivers from local roads this weekend, as they do every day of the year, and we thank them for their dedication to service.”
Research shows high visibility community engagement campaigns can reduce impaired driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent. Sobriety checkpoints play a key part in raising awareness about the problem. Law enforcement agencies throughout Dutchess County and the state will be out in force in this coordinated effort to reduce the number of alcohol-related injuries and deaths.

The Memorial Day crackdown is one of many statewide high visibility community engagement campaigns promoted by the New York State STOP-DWI Association. The statewide STOP-DWI engagement campaigns also target Labor Day, the Super Bowl, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and the national holiday season in December.   

While STOP-DWI efforts across New York have led to significant reductions in the numbers of alcohol and drug related fatalities, still too many lives are being lost because of crashes caused by drunk or impaired drivers. Highly visible, highly publicized efforts like the STOP-DWI High Visibility Community Engagement Campaign aim to further reduce the incidence of drunk and impaired driving.

A ROBO Call was sent out today to the residents of Beacon Housing Authority advising them of what action to take when the Carbon Monoxide Detector goes off. Hopefully they took time to listen to the full message.

What is carbon dioxide monoxide?

Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless gas formed by the incomplete combustion of fuels. When people are exposed to CO gas, the CO molecules will displace the oxygen in their bodies and lead to poisoning.

What is a carbon monoxide detector?

A carbon monoxide detector is a device that is used to detect the presence of carbon monoxide in the atmosphere in order to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. The device is designed to measure levels of carbon monoxide in an environment over time, and to sound an alarm if the level reaches a critical level.

If the Carbon Monoxide Detector’s alarm is going off you should call the Fire Department immediately. Do not call the BHA Management Office as this is a life and death emergency. Taking the proper action in this situation is critical and could save lives.

BEACON – City police are investigating a shooting that resulted in a victim being transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s-Cornwall Hospital.  Police responded to the area of Forrestel Heights around 7:00 p.m.

Police arrived in the area of 20 Forrestal Heights on Saturday evening and located a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance with radio reports indicating that CPR was being performed on the victim.

Temporary Opening of Wait List

The City of Beacon Housing Authority opened its Wait List for both the Tenant Based and the Project Based Housing Choice Voucher Program on 4/1/22.

Applications are available at our main office located at One Forrestal Heights, Beacon, NY 12508. Applications are only issued on Monday, Wednesday and Friday during business hours (8:30AM – 3:30pm).

Applications are also available by email – send your request to; reception@beaconhousingauthority.org

Completed applications must be MAILED to: The City of Beacon Housing Authority, One Forrestal Heights, Beacon, NY 12508 or DROPPED OFF in our lock box at the same location. Faxed or emailed applications will NOT be accepted.

All fully completed applications MUST be received in our lock box or postmarked by August 31, 2022.

The Wait List will close at 12PM on August 31, 2022 and no further applications will be issued or received.

All applicants must be 18 years or older. Any incomplete, illegible, or late applications will be returned to sender.
